Week of January 16th

Today was a busy day in the classroom.  We have been focusing on shapes (2D and 3D) and really put our knowledge to work by finding shapes around the room.  The kids had a blast doing this!  They also made 2D shapes with laces on our peg board.  This is a great activity for fine motor as well as hand and eye coordination.  The kids also built amazing 3D shapes using marshmallows and toothpicks.  We were very lucky to have Mme Roy pop in while we were working on these.  The kids explained their work and she was VERY amazed at how much knowlede they had with shapes!
We are also looking at numbers to 10 and showing how to compose numbers.  We often ask the students to show us a certain number using their hands in multiple ways.  It is a great way to teach the kids that there are many ways to make a number (eg. 6 can be made by adding 3 and 3 or by adding 2 and 4).

Our letter of the week is "d" and our word of the week is "and".  Please review these with your child during nightly reading.  We discovered today that one friend (Andrei) and Callum's mom (Andrea) and Mrs. Rocco (Andrea) all have our word of the week in their name.  It was quite the revelation!!!
During our poem today, we learned a little trick about what the letters "ing" say when we see them together.  Ask your child to teach you about "King the ing".  We put crowns on all the "ing " s that we found in our poem and chanted our new "King the ing" song.

Snuggle Books:  Please ensure that the sk Snuggle Folder comes back every Friday.  Because it is a rotation of books, without the folder, your child  will not receive a new book for the week.  I was very excited to read the comments from parents on Friday.  Please note that the books will be all different levels so one week it might be easy and the next week might be more challenging.
